Calvin and Hobbes is not new to me, I have read almost all of the published sripts through internet, but I was wrong. There are too many of them which I haven't yet read.
Anyway, if somebody is reading this stuff ( though chances are minimal) but still....I will like to throw some light on calvin and hobbes first. So all those who know some thing about calvin and hobbes skip this paragraph after this period. Calvin and Hobbes is singular, so all those who were wondering why I was using singular verbs with "Calvin and Hobbes" might get there answer. C & H is the comic script written by Bill Waterson and its regarded as the best comic script ever written. For more information visit this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvin_and_hobbes.
For me who is religious follower of comics column of newspaper, C&H is best among all. I didn't know anything about C&H when I first came across it in Hindustan Times this was when I was in 2nd year of my graduation (2002) , first few days I was not able to understand anything about the script and even used to think why are they publishing this script in first place, but after some time I was able to grasp the level of the script, you see I was consumed by other lower level scripts (Now I can call them ) , the day my mind was at different higher level , I was madly in love with the script. Infact, I can not be sure if ever I have loved someone or anything with so much "shiddat".
Why is it so fascinating ? anyhow it is just another comic strip ...
Here you are wrong , it is just not comic strip intended to make you laugh, it is the voice of Bill Waterson, which takes you into altogether different world, where you can connect yourself with the protogonists, you will find yourself at that place of time and situation, overall you will wish why you were not like him when you were child. Calvin is just 6 years old and Hobbes is his stuffed tiger, who for Calvin is a real tiger. So Calvin and Hobbes are not different they are one and the same : Calvin, who is nothing but Bill Waterson. Ironically Calvin and Hobbes were infact two very famous philosophers in real life. So no wonder why Bill chose such names for his masterpiece. Through this strip Bill has wonderfully captured life and time of his era. With changing weather round the year, the flavour of strips also change. In summers, those long break from schools , hot and long days , all the mischiefs which we used to do or used to plan about are captured beautifully. However I haven't experienced chilly and snowing winters but in the comic strip it is shown wonderfully. With snow art work, Bill has given us a deep insight into a child's psychology. Boring school hours, those horses of imaginations, those punishments given by teachers, maths problems ...I mean everything ..I insist everything which you and I have experienced is there in this strip.
Bill has also beautifully showcased the dilemma of parents of growing up children, their patience, their sarcasm and how they are able to gather joy in raising a child.
Though I was little unsure about validness of my decision to purchase collection of C&H which burned a hole in my pocket, but now I am happy that I lost the shirt. :)
It is food for intellectual soul. Believe me. Go and have it on your book rack.
